XU Tianjin


XU Tianjin, male, was born in 1958 in Urumqi, Xinjiang Province and native place Yongkang, Zhejiang Province. He is a professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University. Now he works as the Director of Center for the Study of Chinese Archaeology and Center of Archaeology and Art for the General Public at Peking University, which are the key institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences designated by the Ministry of Education. He has joined and taken charge of archaeological excavations and research of many important sites, such as the cemetery of royal clan of Jin State in the Zhou dynasty in Tianma-Qu Village, Shanxi Province, the Liulihe Sitein Fangshan District, Beijing, Zhouyuan Site and Zhougong Temple in Shaanxi Province. He has taken part in key projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology – “Xia-Shang-Zhou Chronology Project” and “The Project Aimed at Tracing the Origins of Chinese Civilization”, as well as the key research projects of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education. He is now mainly engaged in Shang and Zhou archaeology and public archaeology research.
