XIAO Geng


XIAO Geng was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province in 1963. He obtained Ph.D. Economics of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is Associate Professor, School of Economics and Finance, the University of Hong Kong and Vice President of Institute for China and Global Development (ICGD), the University of Hong Kong. In 1991, Dr. Xiao joined the Research Group on Socialist Economic Reform of the World Bank. In 1992, he was appointed a tenured professor for Chinese Economic Studies at the University of Hong Kong. Later, he was seconded to the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong as Advisor to the Chairman and Head of Research, and presided over policy research on the development, interaction and supervision of capital markets in Hong Kong and the Mainland. Dr. Xiao is currently a member of the Nominative Panel for the Nobel Prize in Economics, member of the Expert Committee of China's Economics Prize, Contract Research Fellow of Shanghai Institute of Law and Economics, Adjunct Professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and member of "Asian Economic Forum". Dr, Xiao is mainly engaged in empirical and policy research on the reform and development of Chinese enterprises, finance and institutions, and providing policy analysis and advice for policy makers in the Mainland and Hong Kong.
