MA Rong


MA Rong, male, Hui nationality, was born in Shenyang, Liaoning, with his ancestral home in Shanghai. He obtained a doctoral degree in Harvard University. Professor and doctoral supervisor of Department of Sociology and Institute of Sociology and Anthropology of Peking University. Former head of Department of Sociology and Institute of Sociology and Anthropology of Peking University. Expert for the preparation of a Tibetology research institute in Peking University. Member of the academic committee of China Tibetology Research Center. Part-time vice-chairman of China Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, deputy director of China Ethnological Association, deputy director of China Anthropological Association, executive managing director of China Sociological Association, head of union for professional studies on ethnology and sociology, and executive managing director of China Union of Education for Ethnic Minorities. He was once a member of the third development advisory committee of Tibet autonomous region, deputy director of the academic committee of the national ethnic unity education research center, a member of the panel of Xinjiang think tank, a member of the advisory committee of the United Front Work of CPC Central Committee and a member of the national ethnic education panel of the Ministry of Education. His main research fields are regional development, population migration, urbanization, ethnic relations, education sociology, population sociology and ethnic sociology.
