China-U.S. Strategic and Policy Dialogue

On May 13, 2021, the China-U.S. Strategic and Policy Dialogue, co-organized by the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding (iGCU), Peking University and the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, was successfully held in the form of video conference.

The dialogue began with opening remarks by Neil Bush, Founder and Chairman of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, and Professor Jia Qingguo, former Dean of the School of International Studies at Peking University and Director of iGCU of Peking University.

After that, the conference entered the formal dialogue session which was divided into two parts. More than ten experts, scholars and former dignitaries attended the conference and gave keynote speeches on the topics of “trade and commercial relations” and “political and security relations” respectively. They also had in-depth discussions on such issues as the fundamental changes in China-U.S.relations and their impact on trade and commercial ties, the impact of the COVID-19 on China-U.S.economic relations, and strategic competition between China and the U.S. and its impact on political and security relations.

At the end of the conference, Wang Dong, Executive Director of iGCU of Peking University and professor at the School of International Studies at Peking University, and David Firestein, President of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, delivered their closing remarks.

The “China-U.S. Strategic and Policy Dialogue” served as a platform for academic exchanges between China and the U.S. to promote understanding, cooperation, and settlement of hot spotissues, and provided an opportunity for further communication, which was of great significance to deepen dialogues and people-to-people exchanges between Chinese and the U.S. policy, academic and think tank communities.
