On October 20, 2025, the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding (iGCU) at Peking University hosted the Kim Koo Forum Lecture Seriesa. The session, titled “The Evolving Landscape of Multilateral Development Finance and the Growth of the Global South ,”featured Mr. Roman Novozhilov, Head of the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Department at the New Development Bank (NDB) ,and a seasoned expert in international development finance.

The event was chaired by Wang Dong, Full Professor with Tenure at School of International Studies, Peking University, Deputy Director of the Office for Humanities and Social Sciences,and Executive Director of iGCU.
Four scholars from the School of International Studies, Professor Zhang Zhirong, Tenured Associate Professors Chen Shaofeng and Guo Jie, and Assistant Professor Xu Qinyi, joined the discussion alongside Senior Researcher Wang Lian from the DiDi Research Institute.
Mr. Novozhilov reviewed the historical evolution of multilateral development banks (MDBs) from post-war reconstruction to sustainable development, highlighting the emergence of new institutions such as the AIIB and NDB amid the growing influence of the Global South. He emphasized that the NDB is committed to promoting sustainable infrastructure, climate financing, and local currency lending to support equitable global growth.
