DU Weiming


DU Weiming, male, was born in 1940 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, native place Nanhai, Guangdong Province. Achieving his master’s degree from Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University, he is a famous contemporary Chinese scholar, a representative of modern Neo-Confucianism and a famous thinker of contemporary research and Confucian culture transmission. He is also a senior fellow of Harvard University Asia Center, Dean of Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University, Vice President of International Confucian Association, honorary academician of International Society for the Philosophy (on behalf of China) and academic advisory member of Chinese Culture Promotion Society. His research centers on the modern transformation of traditional Chinese Confucianism and is regarded as the representative of contemporary neo-Confucianism. He has published 11 works in English and 16 in Chinese and hundreds of papers. In 2001 and 2002, he won respectively the Ninth International T’oegye Research Award and the Ecological and Religious Award by the United Nations.
