On June 19, 2020, Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee for the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the Our Hong Kong Foundation, said that legislation on national security in Hong Kong is a must, and it represents Hong Kong’s duty to the country. He pointed out that after the outbreak of COVID-19, China made a quick response in a short period of time and the whole country was united to support. Through its response to the epidemic, China has demonstrated great governance, so in the long run, he has confidence in the country and its future development, “A good China is the prerequisite for a good Hong Kong”.

Our Hong Kong Foundation invited Zhang Weiwei, Director of the China Institute of Fudan University, to deliver a video presentation on the topic of “Democracy and Hong Kong’s Choice”.

Zhang Weiwei believed that the introduction of the legislation on national security for Hong Kong would be beneficial both for its economy and enterprises. He believed that mending the weak links of national security will be welcomed by visionary enterprises. The violence triggered by the “Hong Kong’s Extradition Turmoil” has traumatized Hong Kong’s economy. The only path that Hong Kong must follow is to settle down and focus on development, the people’s livelihood, and economic growth. Hong Kong is well positioned and will receive support from the Mainland if it seeks to do a good job.
