The Development of the English School of International Relations

[Author] ZHANG Xiaoming

[Abstract] The English School of International Relations is a very unique one among the Western theories of international relations, which regards the conception of international society as its theoretical "hard core", and adheres to the classical or traditional approach. It has been in the process of development since it was created during the Cold War years. After the Cold War, while retaining its theoretical uniqueness, the English School has made a few new academic attempts, which comprise three major developments trends, namely the school's identity awareness, the solidarist turn, and the theoretical revisionism.
