Prof. Liang argues that China’s expertise in EV technology, extensive manufacturing capacity, and industry experience positions Chinese EV companies as crucial partners in Africa’s green transportation shift. By providing technology, products, and localized production options, these companies can significantly support African countries achieve their environmental goals and builds us tainable transport systems.
Prof. Liang notes that in Africa, where road transport remains vital for passenger and goods movement, traditional fuel vehicles contribute heavily to pollution and energy strains. As environmental awareness rises across the continent, EVs are increasingly viewed as a practical solution. Prof. Liang highlights the surge in China’s EV exports to Africa—particularly to South Africa, Rwanda, Morocco, Kenya, and Nigeria—as a testament to this demand, with Chinese brands offering cost-effective and reliable green transportation options.
Using Kenya as an example,Prof. Liang discusses its national “Electric Transportation” initiative launched in 2023 to combatair pollution by expanding EV infrastructure. Notably, China’s Nezha brand signed an agreement with a Kenyan vehicle assembler to locally produce EVs, underscoring the importance of China-Africa collaboration in achieving emission reduction and green mobility goals.
Looking ahead, Prof. Liang sees vast potential for China and Africa to deepen EV sector cooperation, which holds mutual benefits. He recommends several key actions to strengthen this partnership: aligning policies, fostering local production to enhance competitiveness, engaging in joint research, expanding charging infrastructure, and promoting talent exchange. These steps, he asserts, will drive sustainable growth, address climate challenges, and support economic advancement in both regions.
