Prof. Jiang Kai, together with Zhu Shirong from PKU’s Center for International Higher Education, argues that higher education has become a strategic anchor of China–Central Asia relations under the Belt and Road Initiative. He notes that shifts in regional geopolitics and the persistence of certain Western narratives have shaped public perceptions, making educational exchange crucial for fostering trust and countering misinterpretation.

He highlights that deepening economic ties have created urgent demand for bilingual and technically skilled talent, positioning universities as platforms for innovation and human-capital development. Prof. Jiang also emphasizes the cultural dimension: joint programs, youth activities, and academic mobility help dismantle stereotypes and strengthen mutual understanding.

According to the authors, recent developments, including joint institutes, transnational campuses, Lu Ban Workshops, and growing student flows, show that collaboration is evolving into a multi-layered ecosystem connecting governments, universities, and local communities.
