Lecture Given by Dr. Edwin Winckler from the U.S.

On the afternoon of November 19, 2014, School of International Studies, Peking University and Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding, Peking University (iGCU) jointly invited Dr. Edwin Winckler, an American political scientist, former professor at East Asia Institute of Columbia University and "NENU Scholar" of Northeast Normal University of China to give an academic lecture themed "Sino-American relations from the point of view of the grand strategies of the two countries" at School of Humanities. Deputy Dean of School of International Studies Fan Shiming presided over the lecture.

Prof. Edwin Winckler probed into his views on the U.S. international strategies from the U.S'  grand strategy, China' s grand strategy and their features. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Edwin Winckler had active interactions with the participating teachers and students, and took their questions. The lecture lasted for 2 hours, and Dr. Edwin Winckler' s unique insights and vivid language benefited all participants a lot.

Edwin Winckler, an American political scientist, former professor at East Asia Institute of Columbia University and "NENU Scholar" of Northeast Normal University of China. He obtained his bachelor, master and doctoral degrees from Harvard University and learned after Prof. Benjamin Schwartz. Social part-time jobs include: counselor of the United Nation Population Fund, policy advisor of U.S. Department of State and counselor of Population and Family Planning Commission of China. His mainly studies China-U.S. politics and policies with academic writings of Contending Approaches to the Political Economy of Taiwan and Governing China' s Population. In recent years, he has devoted himself to the comparative studies of Chinese and Western political systems.
