Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, Deputy Secretary of Energy, recently wrote to John Holden, Deputy Dean of Yenching Academy of Peking University, to thank Peking University for arranging the symposium for teachers and students of Peking University, including Yenching Academy, on June 7th.

The symposium focused on the innovative development of the low-carbon economy and the critical role of students in global climate and energy. When talking about her work in the US Department of Energy (DOE), Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall mentioned that working for the DOE gives her the opportunity to meet students from around the world and hear their thoughts on climate and energy, which she values very much. She believed that young students from the US and China would play an essential role in promoting US-China understanding and cooperation, facilitating a joint response to climate change and providing energy solutions.

Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall expressed her pleasure at holding the symposium with the teachers and students of Peking University at the Stanford Center at Peking University (SCPKU). She was delighted to have the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss issues about the world's energy and innovative technologies with outstanding young people from Yenching Academy and Peking University.

Thank you Letter from Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall:

Dear John:

What a delightful surprise it was to see you in Beijing last month when I visited the Stanford Center at Peking University! Thank you for the warm personal welcome and the lively discussion with students, including many of your talented young people at the Yenching Academy. I valued the opportunity to interact with the students at both the formal session and the reception.

Engaging with students across the United States and around the world is one of the highlights of serving at the Department of Energy. As I told your bright students, I believe that they can play an important role in advancing U.S.-China cooperation, especially in our vital shared mission to combat climate change and deploy clean energy solutions.

I hope our paths will cross again in the near future. In the meantime, thank you again for a terrific visit.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall
