Recently, the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding (iGCU) at Peking University interviewed former U.S. State Department official and 11th U.S. Ambassador to China Max Baucus and his wife Melodee Hanes, who shared their insights on topics such as China-U.S. relations, cultural exchanges, and youth interactions. The ambassador and his wife emphasized that strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly enhancing mutual understanding among the younger generation, is crucial at present. They believe that promoting China-U.S. exchanges is a win-win endeavor and that efforts should be made to foster deep friendships between the youth of both countries, laying a foundation for long-term relations. Regarding China-U.S. relations, Ambassador Baucus and his wife stated that it is unrealistic for the United States to try to contain China's development. Instead, both sides should engage in pragmatic cooperation in areas such as agriculture, climate change, and sustainable development, gradually building mutual trust, fostering consensus, and advancing the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
