LI Daoyu, male, Han Ethnicity, was born in August 1932 in Hefei, Anhui Province as a descendant of the Li Hongzhang family. He once served as the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a permanent representative to the United Nations, the China’s Ambassador to the United States, the President of China International Public Relations Association, a deputy to the 9th National People’s Congress and the Vice Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the NPC Standing Committee. He was granted the national honorary title of “outstanding contributor to diplomatic work” in 2019.

He has contributed to multilateral and bilateral diplomacy and involved in China’s decision-making and handling of major diplomatic issues. During his tenure as China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, LI handled complex and sensitive issues, such as the outbreak of the first Gulf War, thus raising China’s voice in the international arena. On September 17 2019, Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping signed the Order of President and presented the national honorary title of “outstanding contributor to diplomatic work” to LI.
