Second Yonsei-Beijing forum

2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ROK diplomatic ties. On September 30th, the Second Yonsei-Beijing forum, hosted by the Yonsei Institute for Sinology (ROK), was succesfully held online. Leading scholars from China and the ROK were invited to the event, discussing the current situation and the prospect of China-ROK relations, as well as the challenges in the bilateral ties.

The event consists of three sessions. Prof. Wang Dong (Executive Director of iGCU) moderated the first session, themed “The fields in need for a strengthened China-ROK cooperation: Military, Technology and North Korean issues”.

Prof. Wang delivered his opening remarks at the beginning of the event. In his speech, Prof. Wang stressed that China and the ROK, as two influential countries in the region, should strengthen cooperation, enhance mutual trust and work together to maintain regional stability. Prof. Wang further noted the prevalence of threat perception bias toward China among general public in the ROK, pointing out that both sides should strengthen communication for eliminating misunderstandings and overcoming unnecessary anxiety.

Leading scholars from China who attended the forum included Prof. Chen Yue (Director of the Deptartment of Foreign Military Studies at the Academy of Military Sciences), Dr. Li Min (Research Fellow at China Institute of International Studies), Dr. Feng Donghao (Research Fellow at the Academy of Military Sciences). Renowned scholars from the ROK who attended the forum included Prof. Kim Hyuncheol (Dean of the Yonsei Intitute for Sinology), Prof. Yang Jeonghak (Professor at Korea Military Academy, ROK), and Prof. Son Daekwon (Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Sogang University).
