Sino-U.S. Social and Humanities Dialogue Joint Statement

In April 2017, when Chinese President XJinping and U.S. President Donald Trump met at Mar-a-Lago, they jointly decided to establish a China-US social and humanistic dialogue mechanism.

In Sptember 2017, Chinese Vice Premier LIU Yandong and U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson co-hosted the the first round of Sino-U.S. social and humanistic dialogue in Washington DC.

This round of dialogue includes cooperation in seven areas including education, science and technology, environmental protection, culture, health, social development, and local humanities cooperation. It aims to promote both sides to further promote social and cultural exchanges within the framework of the comprehensive dialogue mechanism between the two countries.

In the field of education, China and the United States agree that encouraging students from both countries to study in each other's country and promoting exchanges and cooperation between educational institutions and scholars of the two countries can enhance mutual understanding and promote cultural exchanges.

In the field of social development, China and the United States will give full play to the roles of women, sports professionals, youth and other sectors of society, and enhance mutual understanding through cooperation and discussion.

In the field of health, China and the United States will further deepen cooperation, protect global health security together and build a community of health and destiny for the two peoples.

In the field of local humanities cooperation, China and the United States will jointly promote exchanges and cooperation between the local administrative departments of the two countries and actively carry out local humanities exchanges in education, science and technology, environmental protection, culture and health.

In the field of culture, China and the United States will work hard to support the establishment of long-term exchanges and cooperation between cultural institutions of both sides.

In the field of environmental protection, China and the United States have established close cooperation at the national and local levels, taking joint actions in areas such as marine protection, sustainable fisheries, combating the smuggling of wild animals and plants, oceans and endangered species. In the future, it will promote the development of environmental protection and energy technology under the protection of intellectual property rights, respond to climate change, promote the implementation of environmental protection laws, and protect the surrounding environment.
