On Feb. 10, the article of Prof. Zhang Yun (Associate Professor of National Niigata University in Japan; Research Fellow of the Center for Global Governance at Peking University), 'Deterrence should play second fiddle' was published on China Daily.
In the article, Prof. Zhang discusses US-Japan Military Alliances and the security issue in East Asia, suggesting thatthe US military alliances' self-identification as the cornerstone for regional security and the primary means to maintain regional security lacks support from historical practices and logical evidence.
For Prof. Zhang, "the main channel for establishing a sustainable regional security order in East Asia must be based on the security concept of dialogue and cooperation, with the support of deterrence, not the other way around."
