The Lanting Forum Themed "The Global Security Initiative: China's Proposal for Solving Security Challenges"

On February 21, 2023, the Lanting Forum themed "The Global Security Initiative: China's Proposal for Solving Security Challenges" was held in Beijing. The forum was hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and sponsored by the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding at Peking University and Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China.

Former dignitaries and representatives from various circles of society worldwide were invited, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former President of Slovenia Danilo Türk, former Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai, and former UN Under-Secretary-General Liu Zhenmin.

Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech, announcing China's official release of the Global Security Initiative Concept Paper.

Prof. Wang Dong (Executive Director of iGCU) moderated the Sub-Forum I themed "Global Security Initiative and Traditional Security". Former Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai, former Foreign Minister of Egypt Nabil Fahmy, former Deputy Director-Genernal of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee of CPC Chen Xiaogong, Chairman of Eurasia Group Cliff Kupchan, former New Zealand Ambassador to China Tony Browne, Major General and Commandant of International College of Defense Studies at National Defense University Xu Hui, Chairman of Sejong Institute and former Special Advisor to the President of ROK for Diplomacy and National Security Moon Chung-in, Director of Department for International and Strategy Studies at China Institute of International Studies Zhu Zhongbo, and Executive Director of the PenangInstitute in Malaysia Ooi Kee Beng, participated in theSub-ForumIand shared their perspectives onthe topic of Global Security Initiative and traditional security.
