In Octocber and November, iGCUand USChinaGUco-hosted 3 sessions of China-U.S. Student-to-Student Dialogue about global development, and China's and the U.S.'s roles in advancing global development. 24 selected students from both schools participated in the discussions.
The three dialogue sessions were themed “The UN SDGs & the Challenge of Poverty Alleviation,” “China’s Global Dev’t Initiative & the Challenge of Clean Energy,” and “The U.S. Approach to Global Dev’t & the Challenge of Natural Disasters,” respectively.
After three dialogue sessions, Prof. Thomas Banchoff (Vice President for Global Engagement of Georgetown University) and Prof. Wang Dong (Executive Director of iGCU; Professor of the SIS, PKU) respectively delivered their closing remarks.
Prof. Banchoff praised students for their performances during the event. He indicated that how the students delicately managed one another’s differences and reconciled divergent views had set good examples for both nations to unfold in-depth conversations in other areas.
Prof. Wang also commended the students’ active participation and the significance of the dialogues, noting that the discussions had covered key issues concerning human dev’t, and the students had presented their excellence by providing distinct insights on these issues.
