CHEN Pingyuan, male, Han Ethnicity, was born in 1954 in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province. With PhD in Arts at Peking University, he is now a professor of Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University, Distinguished Professor of “The Yangtze River Scholar” by the Ministry of Education, Chair Professor of Chinese Language and Literature at Chinese University of Hong Kong, Director of the Academic Committee of Research Center for the Twentieth-Century Chinese Culture and Chairman of Chinese Institute of Folk Literature. His main research interests include academic history of modern China, history of Chinese novels, history of Chinese proses and the twentieth-century Chinese culture. His scientific achievements include Fund Program of a General Survey of Chinese Culture – “Chinese Proses and Chinese Fictions” (completed) in 1998, State Education Commission Scientific Research Fund Project – “Hundred Years of Chinese Literature Studies” (completed) in 1995 and National Social Science Fund Program – “The Modern Process of Chinese Literature Studies” (group project, completed). In 2006, he was appointed as the Distinguished Professor of “The Yangtze River Scholar” by the Ministry of Education.
