The Anchorage Meeting was the first meeting between the U.S. and China after President Biden took office, and the “diplomatic collision” at this high-level meeting garnered worldwide attention. In this context, the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) held an online seminar on “The China-U.S. Relationship After the Anchorage Meeting” to encourage more professional and rational dialogues on a strategic level between China and the U.S on May 25, 2021, and to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the bilateral relations. The seminar was divided into two parts: “Current situation of the China-U.S. relationship” and “Prospects of the China-U.S. relationship”.
Wang Dong, Executive Director of the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding(iGCU) of Peking University and professor at the School of International Studies, Peking University presided over the seminar. Yue Xiaoyong, former Chinese Ambassador to Ireland and member of the Academic Committee of iGCU of Peking University, Zhou Qi, Executive Director of National Strategy Institute at Tsinghua University and member of the Academic Committee of iGCU of Peking University and many other former Chinese and U.S. dignitaries and scholars attended the seminar as guests, expressing their opinions and exchanging views on the Anchorage Meeting and the trend of bilateral relations. At the end of the seminar, Tao Tao, Deputy Secretary General of CPAPD, gave concluding remarks.
The online seminar provided a valuable platform for exchanges between the Chinese and U.S. policy and academic communities. Mutual understanding between scholars from both countries was deepened through constructive communication and dialogue, and the diverse views expressed at the seminar helped the academic community to further understand and deliberate over the opportunities and challenges for China-U.S. relations in the future.
