On Aug. 18, the symposium themed "The 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of China-Japan Diplomatic Relations: Retrospect and Prospect of the Sino-Japanese Relations", co-hosted by the Chinese Association for Japanese Studies, the School of International Studies at Peking University and the Institute of Japanese Studies at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Leading scholars and experts were invited to the event and shared their thoughts on the development of Sino-Japanese Relations. Including Prof. Wang Bo (Vice President of Peking University), Amb. Cheng Yonghua (Former Chinese Ambassador to Japan and Executive Vice President of the China-Japan Friendship Association), Amb. Cui Tiankai (Former Chinese Ambassador to the United States and Japan), and Prof. Yang Bojiang (Director of Institute of Japanese Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and iGCU Academic Committee Member).
Prof. Wang Bo (Vice President of Peking University) delivered an opening remark at the beginning of the event. In his speech, Prof. Wang highlighted the significance of people-to-people exchanges, and emphasized that universities of the two countries should be responsible for facilitating the healthy development of Sino-Japanese relations through the active promotion of academic and cultural exchanges.
Amb. Cheng Yonghua (Former Chinese Amb. to Japan and Executive Vice President of the China-Japan Friendship Association) noted in his speech that as the present-day global situation is getting chaotic and unpredictable than it used to be, the relationship between China and Japan is facing challenges. For the bilateral ties to develop in the direction of peace, Amb. Cheng believes that China and Japan should maintain effective communication, and actively conduct strategic dialogues to remove political obstacles.
