The serial high-end lecture of Kim Koo Forum was recently held at the School of International Studies at Peking University. The guest speaker, Mr. Roh Jae-hyun, the son of former South Korean President Mr. Roh Tae-woo, gave a talk titled “Asian Futurism for Peace and Co-prosperity in the World”.

Mr. Roh Jae-hyunre called his family's links to China, noting that the Roh family's ancestors were originally from Shandong, China, and that his family was an example of the historical ties between China and South Korea.

He then expressed his fears about the waning mutual trust and goodwill among the Chinese, Japanese, and South Koreans (mainly among youngsters) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rising nationalist sentiment and xenophobia, and widespread biased and false information on the internet and social media platforms.

Mr. Roh Jae-hyun proposed several ways to improve the current trilateral relations, including promoting cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, developing a new digital platform for young people to communicate, share, and express their pride as Asians, and practicing “Asian Futurism” to envision a future of harmony and co-prosperity in Asia.

Professor Jia Qingguo (Professor of the School of International Studies at Peking University; Director of iGCU) commented on Mr. Roh Jae-hyun's talk. He emphasized the importance of respecting diversity, tolerating differences, and looking forward to the future in dealing with historical issues and regional cooperation among China, Japan, and South Korea. Assistant Professor of the School of International Studies at PKU and Secretary-General of iGCU Qi Haotian moderated the event.
