From September 25 to 26, 2025, Wang Dong, Professor at the School of International Relations, Peking University, led members of his research team on a research trip to Wuhan. Focusing on Wuhan's practical exploration in artificial intelligence (AI) governance, the research team visited a number of entities in Wuhan, including scientific research institutions, universities, enterprises, and grassroots communities. The initiative aimed to systematically summarize and refine the “Optics Valley Model” for China’s AI governance.

On the morning of September 25, the team first visited the PKU-Wuhan Institute for Artificial Intelligence. They held discussions with relevant officials from the East Lake High-tech Development Zone Management Committee and the Research Institute.

On the afternoon of the 25th, accompanied by the Director of the Operations Department from the PKU-Wuhan Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the team visited three high-tech enterprises: Landing Med, Dameng Database, and Shengtong Technology.

On the morning of September 26, the team visited Hukou Community in Fozuling Subdistrict, part of the National Intelligent Social Governance Experimental Base in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone.

On the afternoon of the 26th, the team held separate discussions with experts and scholars from Wuhan University’s School of Artificial Intelligence, School of Political Science & Public Administration, and Institute for International Studies.

This research activity successfully established a communication platform between the research team and universities, research institutions, and frontline enterprises in Wuhan, laying a solid foundation for further cooperation. This field research provides multifaceted practical and theoretical support for systematically refining the “Optics Valley Model” of AI governance.
