On November 27, 2025, a delegation from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) visited the School of International Studies (SIS) at Peking University (PKU) for an in-depth dialogue on China-US relations, regional security, and arms control.
The meeting commenced with opening remarks from Professor Jia Qingguo, Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC National Committee and Director of the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding (iGCU) at PKU, and Sergio Grassi, FES Resident Representative in China.
Distinguished participants included Angela Kane, former United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs; Götz Neuneck, former Director of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH); Oliver Meier, Policy Director at the European Leadership Network; and Tobias Fella, Senior Researcher at the IFSH Berlin office.
The Chinese academic delegation featured PKU Professor Zha Daojiong, Associate Professor Han Hua, and Assistant Professor Lü Xiaoyu.
The dialogue focused on critical international security issues, including the strategic impact of China-US relations on Europe, the evolving security situation on the Korean Peninsula, and nuclear non-proliferation. The experts engaged in frank discussions regarding the governance of emerging technologies and the evolution of global arms control mechanisms.
Participants reached a consensus that, amidst profound transitions in the international order, sustained dialogue is essential for enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening crisis management. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular academic exchanges to contribute to Sino-European relations and global governance.
