On 18 September 2026, a delegation from Singapore’s ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute visited the iGCU at Peking University. The delegation and iGCU experts held in-depth discussions on developments in Southeast Asia, China-Singapore and China-ASEAN relations, and potential cooperation between the two institutions.

Professor Wang Dong of Peking University’s School of International Studies, who also serves as Executive Director of the iGCU, chaired the exchange and delivered welcoming remarks.

Members of the visiting delegation included Ng Chee Khern, Director and Chief Executive Officer of ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute; William Choong, Principal Fellow and Managing Editor of Fulcrum; Joanne Lin, Senior Fellow and Coordinator of the ASEAN Studies Centre; Sophie Yi, Wang Gungwu Visiting Fellow; and Indira Zahra Aridati, Research Officer.

Gao Dan, Specially Appointed Associate Research Fellow at Peking University’s School of International Studies; Li Zongfang, Postdoctoral Fellow at the iGCU; and Shen Jiqiu, Research Assistant at the iGCU, also participated in the exchange.

Representatives from both sides introduced the institutional positioning, research areas, and priority work of their respective organizations. During the open discussion, they exchanged views on development trends in Southeast Asia, bilateral interactions between China and Singapore, China-ASEAN relations, and risk management in the interactions among major powers in the region.

The two sides reached an initial consensus on expanding practical cooperation. They proposed maintaining the positive tradition of annual reciprocal visits and exploring various forms of cooperation, including scholar exchanges, the reciprocal promotion and sharing of research findings, and jointly organized seminars, with a view to enabling the two think tanks to complement each other’s research resources. The exchange further deepened mutual understanding between the iGCU at Peking University and Singapore’s ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. It also laid a sound foundation for sustained dialogue on regional issues and for advancing people-to-people exchanges and peaceful development in the region between Chinese and Singaporean think tanks.

Formerly known as the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore’s ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute was established as an autonomous organization by an Act of Parliament in 1968. It adopted its current name in August 2015 in honour of Singapore’s first President, Mr. Yusof Ishak. The Institute now has more than 100 full-time researchers. Its research covers socio-political and security issues, economic development, and geostrategic affairs in Southeast Asia. It attracts and develops scholars interested in the region, conducts longitudinal surveys, and provides business and policy advisory services. The Institute organizes conferences, workshops, lectures, and seminars; publishes more than 40 briefs, research journals, and books each year; and provides a range of research support facilities, including a major library.
