Remarks at the seminar “Marking 100 years of the Communist Party of China: Innovation and Resilience”
Your Excellency Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali
Director Bhaskar Koirala, Professor Wang Dong,
Dear experts and friends from Nepal and China:
It’s my pleasure to attend this seminar “Marking 100 years of the Communist Party of China: Innovation and Resilience”. This year, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Over the100 years since its founding, the CPC has united and led the Chinese people in achieving monumental achievements and created a great miraclerarein the Chinese history and even in the human civilization. On this auspicious occasion, scholars from China and Nepal todayaresittingtogether to discussonthe topics including the ideals and experiences of CPCandChina-Nepal relations, whichwillbe of specialsignificance.
To understand China's development, it is essential to have an objectiveunderstanding of China's history anda correct perspective onthe CPC. The CPC always stays true to its original aspiration and founding mission, which is to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. In just a few decades since the founding of New China, we managed to turn the country from being poor and weak into the second largest economy in the world and secured a "complete victory" in its fight against poverty. We now have a middle income group counting over 400 million people; and we haveestablishedthe world's largest social security and compulsory education systems. And the CPC itself has grown from a party with just around 50 members into the world's largest party with more than 90 millionmember, winningthe most extensive support of 1.4 billion Chinese people.
The CPC always regards making a greater contribution to humanityas its loftymission. We uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, proposed the Belt and Road Initiative, actively built a community with a shared future for mankind and a new type of international relations, contributeChinese wisdom and solutions to global governance andhave thusbecame one of the major forces for multilateralism. During the COVID-19 pandemic, China firmlyadvocatesovercomingdivision with unityandpositively promotesglobal cooperation against COVID-19 pandemicincludingprovidingurgently needed supplies to 150-plus countries and 13 international organizations including Nepal. China is the first to pledge making vaccines a global public good and has so far provided 300 million doses to the world, which hasreflected its image of atruly responsible major country and demonstrated the internationalist values behind the CPC.
China and Nepal are traditional friendly neighbors, since the establishment of diplomatic ties, no matter how the international situation changed, China and Nepal have always maintained mutual trust, respect and support andcooperationin all areasbetween us hasyielded fruitful results. In 2019, President Xi Jinping paid a historical state visit to Nepal and upgraded our relations to a strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity. Our traditional friendship has been further enhanced in our joint fight against COVID-19. Several days ago, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with President Bidya Devi Bhandari and reached important consensus on anti-pandemic cooperation and bilateral relations, which would guide the two countries' strategic partnership of cooperation move forward steadily. The CPC also maintain close relationship with the major political parties of Nepal, conducted various bilateral visits and exchanged experiences in state governance and administration. Since the breakout of the pandemic, the CPC has held online meetings with Nepal major political parties on promoting China-Nepal cooperation under the framework of BRI and joint fighting against the pandemic andprovidedthe medical and materialthrough intra-party channels.
Experts being here today are the supporter and promoter of China-Nepal friendship. Ihopeall of you can take this opportunity to have an open and warm discussiontofullysharethoughts and ideasandprovide pertinent suggestions and proposalsonfurther promoting exchanges of political ideals, governance and administration of state affairs and practical cooperationbetween the two countriesin order tomake more contributions to the development of bilateral relations and the enhancement of friendship between our two peoples.
