When it comes to the international situation, President Xi Jinping gave a ringing statement, “We have to stand on the right side of history”. The current international landscape remains complicated and volatile with increasing uncertainties, and economic globalization is facing major challenges of unilateralism and populism. After the pandemic, we may face a complex international environment and surrounding environment that we have not seen in recent decades, and encounter some new situations that we wish to avoid. We must have strategies to resolve them.
We need to dispel clouds of pandemic as soon as possible, stabilize people’s morale and increase confidence. We must continue to deepen reform and adhere to opening up to consolidate hard-won gains. As 80% of our jobs are created by the private economy, it is imperative to strengthen respects for private property and other rights. We need a general environment beneficial to our development, and the world needs a China committed to opening up. With commitment to the path of peaceful development, it is imperative to further enhance our strategic determination, and “make more friends and fewer enemies”. The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has the institutional advantages of conducting extensive foreign exchanges and promoting communication, cooperation and unity in the international community. It should support the country’s overall diplomacy, tell China’s story well, gain the understanding and support of the international community, and create a favorable external environment for reform and opening up.
