The article of Prof. Da Wei (Director ofthe Center for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University and iGCU Academic Committee Member) - “In Search of Stability on Taiwan: Dialogue, Crisis or War?” was published in China US focus on Aug. 29.
Prof. Danoted that the Taiwan issue has always been the most important & sensitive topic in China-US Relations over the past 50 yrs. Pelosi's visit to Taiwan has resulted a fresh round of tensions between the 2 countries andisdragging the bilateral relations toward more serious conflicts. Prof. Da further suggested that the U.S. has been hollowing out its “One-China” Policy in recent years, and has continuously trampled China's red zone, triggering Chinese indignation and anxiety, even with claims it has not violated Chinese bottom lines. Prof. Dabelieved that if China and the U.S. can't achieve stability via self-restraint and mutual reassurance, the two countries may have to wait for achieving stability through a greater crisis, conflict or even war. “The cost of such a course will undoubtedly be too high for China, the U.S. and the entire world.”
