On August 17, the article of Prof. Jie Dalei (Associate Professor of the School of International Studies, PKU), "An unprecedented shock? This new act could be more dangerous than Pelosi's visit to Taiwan", was published in Ifeng.
In the article, Prof. Jie evaluates the impact of the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022 (which was introduced by U.S. lawmakers in June), pointing out that as an upgraded version of the Taiwan Relations Act (1979), the 2022 Act represents a drastic change in U.S. policy on Taiwan and would pose direct challenge for China-U.S. relations. Prof. Jie further indicates that as the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022 intends to "create new initiatives to bolster Taiwan's defense capabilities, provide and designate Taiwan as a 'Major Non-NATO Ally' ", once the Act is passed, it would gravely undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Quoting Prof. Jie, "Although the Taiwan Policy Act (2022) has not yet passed to the Senate and the House of Representatives (might be unlikely to pass in the current term of U.S. Congress), China should stay alert that part of its content may be incorporated into other bills. As the Taiwan Policy Act (2022) violates the One-China Principle & Three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués, it should be firmly opposed."
