Prof. Jia Wenshan (Professor of Shandong University; iGCU Academic Committee Member) was interviewed by SputnikInt on August 4, talking about the prospect of Sino-U.S. relations and the future of the global order following Pelosi's Taiwan trip.
Prof. Jia suggested that Pelosi's visit was a part of U.S. plan of systematically implementing its Indo-Pacific strategy, and had proven U.S. ambition of containing China inside the 'first island chain' through manipulating Taiwan. Prof. Jia further proposed that it would be unlikely for the U.S. to quit playing the 'Taiwan card' if it aspires to maintain its hegemonic status in the world. "The settlement of Taiwan issue is China's domestic issue, and China also wouldn't alter its plan of reunification in accordance with U.S. actions."
Prof. Jia noted that the tension between China and the U.S. has in fact been escalating, with the possibility of the outburst of military confrontation between the two countries rising.
