2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the first proposal of the concept of “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind” by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Against this background, Prof. Wang Dong was interviewed by China News, talking about its profound practical significance.
Prof. Wang reckons that the concept transcends the known boundaries of the states and ethnicity and sees the entire human society as a whole, aiming to eliminate global imbalances and build a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation.
Prof. Wang further suggests that the pursuit of common development has always been a significant aspect of building a community with a shared future for mankind. In the past decade, China has not only successfully eradicated absolute poverty at home but has also actively helped promote global development. For example, under the "Belt and Road Initiative", over 400 thousand job opportunities have been created for partner countries and more than 40 million people have been lifted out of poverty, advancing global development to a great extent.
Under the concept of "Shared Future for Mankind", China has intently focused on the key problems and core conflicts in global development and provided new public good to the international community – the "Global Development Initiative" (GDI). Commenting on the GDI, Prof. Wang indicates that the initiative was based on China’s development and good governance experience that offer more solution-oriented plans for global development challenges. Developing countries can transform the GDI into their development strategies based on their different domestic situations and enhance their governance capabilities.
