Prof. Cui Hongjian(Dir. of the Dept. for European Stud., CIIS; iGCUAcademic Fellow, iGCU)was recently interviewed by@Yicaichinaon the visit of French President Macron and EU Commission President Von der Leyen to China. Prof. Cui reckoned that by inviting President Von der Leyen to visit China together, President Macron aims to coordinate #ChinaFranceRelations and #ChinaEURelations, whichisa clever move.
Prof. Cui shared his thoughts on the concept of “de-risking” proposed by President Von der Leyen, noting that managing and reducing the risks in the China-EU relations is more practical and in both parties’ interests than “decoupling”. He suggested that the EU is now carefully balancing protecting its economic security, competing with China in certain fields, cooperating with China, and not affecting normal economic and trade activities.
In the latter part of the interview,Prof. Cui also analyzed the changes and contradictions in Europe-U.S. relations. To read the full script of the interview in Chinese, please go to: https://www.yicai.com/news/101723623.html
