The article by Professor Zhu Feng (Dean of the School of International Studies at Nanjing University; iGCU Academic Committee Member), “Three-dimensional power play”, was recently published in China Daily.
In the article, Professor Zhuexaminesthe dynamics of the U.S.-China-Europe trilateral relationship, indicating that Europe has played a crucial role in shaping China and the US strategies. He suggests that the evolution of the trilateral ties would greatly impact the current China-US relations.
Prof. Zhu notes that most of the EU member states are trying to maintain a balanced relationship with China and the U.S. and avoid taking sides between the two. Hence, it is important for China to expand and cement cooperation with European countries in several areas, including global governance, trade, and commerce,properly manage any disputes with Europe, and avoid giving the U.S. a chance to exploit any rift between China and Europe.
