The op-ed of Prof. Huo Jianguo(Former President of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation; iGCUAcademic Committee Member)was recently published on Global Times, discussing the U.S. strategy of decoupling and suppressing China’s high-tech industry.
Prof. Huo argues that the U.S. is trying to impede China’s economic growth and confine it to the low end of the global value chain by restricting and blocking its access to key technologies and markets.
Prof. Huo criticizes the U.S. for its exclusive and hostile attitude towards China’s technological rise, citing the Trump administration’s “comprehensive technology decoupling strategy” and the Biden administration’s “small yard high wall” strategy as quintessential cases.
Prof. suggests that China should maintain strategic patience and confidence, strengthen multilateral diplomacy, accelerate technological innovation, and deepen reform and opening up to cope with US pressures and competition.
