Prof. Sun Hong, Dean of the Institute of Global Mega-City Governance, Shenzhen University, and a Special Invited Expert at the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding, Peking University, highlights Hong Kong’s role as an invisible bridge linking two great nations and systems. Its strength lies in its “in-between” position, enabling the exchange of ideas and opportunities.

The Sixth U.S.–China Hong Kong Forum vividly affirmed this role. His conversation with Neil Bush during the Forum emphasized the integral role of cooperation beyond differences: while Bush focused on traditional energy and Sun on green energy, their open dialogue revealed shared interests and the possibility of win-win collaboration, rather than adhering to zero-sum thinking.

Meanwhile, Prof. Sun described former Indian Foreign Minister Nirupama Rao as a “walking bridge” and expressed interest in giving lectures in China. He believed that he had also contributed to guiding international partners towards more profound and meaningful academic exchanges.

Sun’s dialogue also touched on sports diplomacy, following the Vice Chairman of the Forum’s comments about the role of sports in bringing the U.S. “First Tee” program to China. For Sun, golf exemplifies how shared rules and simple joy can connect young people across the East and West.

Ultimately, Sun reckoned that countless bridges—political, academic, generational—are being built simultaneously, supporting a cooperative global village, where shared light endures.

The Sun will never set in the global village!
