The 2015 U.S.-China Civil Strategic Dialogue

From May 14th to 15th, 2015, the Institute for China-U.S. People-to-People Exchange of Peking University and the Brookings Institution successfully held the 2015 U.S.-China Civil Strategic Dialogue in Washington, D.C. The theme of this Track II dialogue was “U.S.-China Relations and International Order”. During the two-day event, the participating Chinese and American experts held in-depth discussions on topics including China and the United States’ views on international order, shared interests and responsibilities between China and the United States, potential challenges to the global order, Asia-Pacific security and the international order in the future, similarities and differences between China and the United States in their vision of East Asia’s political, economic and security framework, opportunities and challenges in the development of U.S.-China relations, U.S.-China cooperation on climate change, clean energy and environmental protection, comparison of economic agendas and modern governance systems between China and the United States, crisis management and crisis prevention mechanisms, economic situation of the U.S. and the 2016 U.S. presidential election. An official of the U.S. Treasury Department in charge of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue was also invited to give a briefing on the 7th U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue in 2015.

This is the third round of the U.S.-China Civil Strategic Dialogue which has been held regularly since 2012. Through sincere and in-depth exchanges, China and the United States have achieved such positive effects as strengthening mutual understanding, increasing trust and dispelling doubt. Both sides are satisfied with the results of the dialogue and expressed the desire to further promote the construction of the dialogue mechanism between Peking University and the Brookings Institution.
