On May 24, 2021, the Mediterranean Forum was successfully held by the Institute for Global Cooperation and Understanding, Peking University (iGCU) and Center for Mediterranean Area Studies(CMAS) of Peking University in the form of video conference.

The first seminar, themed “Forward Looking: Trends and Challenges”, was chaired by Emanuela Del Re, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, and addressed by the Italian Ambassador to China, Luca Ferrari. The second seminar focused on “Future prospects of Cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean Region and China”. Yue Xiaoyong, former Chinese Ambassador to Ireland and academic member of iGCU, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Mutual Respect and Win-win Cooperation to Create a Future with Concerted Efforts”. More than ten former dignitaries, experts, scholars and business representatives attended the two seminars, discussing building an inter-regional strategic link among the Europe-Mediterranean region and China based on the two main themes of the conference.

The Mediterranean Forum drew up a blueprint for prospective inter-regional cooperation among the Euro-Mediterranean region and China in the post-pandemic era from the perspective of political economy. The Forum further reaffirmed the constructive significance of building partnerships and mitigating regional conflicts, and provided an opportunity for academic research and discussions on building win-win cooperation for inter-regional development.
