On the afternoon of February 21, 2014, Jia Qingguo, Director ofInstitute for Global Cooperation and Understanding (formerly known as Institute for China-US People-to-People Exchange)and Dean of School of International Studies, Peking University, accompanied President Wang Enge to meet with General Raymond Odierno, Chief of Staff for the U. S. Army, in Lake House.President Wang Enge warmly welcomed General Odierno and briefed him on the exchanges between Peking University and American colleges and universities.
At the end of the meeting, General Odierno gave a symposium with representative teachers and students from the School of International Studies in the West Hall of Lake House, and Dean Jia Qingguo presided over the symposium and introduced the general’s personal experience.Wang Yong, Yu Wanli, Yu Tiejun, Han Hua and Wang Dong from the School of International Studies attended the symposium.In the question and answer session, teachers and students from the School of International Studies and General Odierno discussed the international environment, military principles, China-US relations and other hot issues.General Odierno firmly believed that exchanges in the military field would be one of the important aspects of deepening exchanges between China and the US. Therefore, China and the US should actively engage in dialogue and build trust, which is of far-reaching significance to the whole world.
