Thank you for giving me and my Embassy this opportunity to speak here. And this session is about the smart cities and regional integration. I really appreciate the work in the development of smart cities.. My name is Khan Muhammad Wazir. I am from the Embassy of Pakistan as the Technical Affairs Counsellor. I am in charge of the China-Pakistan science and technology. We are aware that how essential technological cooperation is in the smart cities development. I was also in charge of technology and informationization affairs before coming to China, and responsible for the economic and trade relation as well as technological cooperation between China and Pakistan. Q&A:
Q: Pakistan is a country with both inland and coastal cities. Do you think Pakistan could learn from the developmental pattern or paths of urbanization in the Alps region which primarily oriented toward their regional hinterlands (supply function)?
Khan Muhammad Wazir:Thank you. In Pakistan, as you mentioned, there is one coastal city that is Karachi. That is a mega city with a population of more than 35 million people. And there are so many intervention from the government of Pakistan where we operated many projects and constructed many infrastructure. There are also some inland cities, such as Islamabad, where we have undertaken the construction of many infrastructure projects. But some of these projects are not yet smart projects but rather conventional ones. So, we are very much satisfied with the way Chinese companies and Pakistani companies cooperate. We look forward to further cooperation with Chinese enterprises in this regard, especially considering Pakistan’s large population, so we need to further consider integration, for example.
I would like to ask you, being an expert in this field, a question, how is we both sides can get more connected together to make the city smart, to implement some projects. Thank you.
