MEI Zhaorong, male, was born in 1934 in Chongming (part of Shanghai today), Jiangsu Province. He is a member of Communist Party of China (CPC) and achieved his master’s degrees at the Department of English Language, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Department of Germanic Language and Literature, Universität Leipzig of Germany. MEI has been successively invited to be the consulting professor, adjunct professor, visiting professor and honorary professor by some universities in Shanghai, Beijing, Zhejiang, Xi’an, etc., as well as Director of Institute of World Development, Development Research Center of the State Council of the PRC, etc. He used to be the Director-General of the Department of Western European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Chinese Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, former President of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, and member of the 8th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Now, MEI is a member of Foreign Policy Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice Chairman of China Institute for International Strategic Studies, distinguished researcher of Beijing Institution of International Studies, distinguished (chair) professor of Fudan University of Shanghai, Director of Institute of World Development, Development Research Center of the State Council of the PRC, etc.
