Two scholars made the remarks as Chinese President Xi Jinping was having the virtual meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden. President Xi pointed out that not only China and the U.S. are at critical stages of development, humanity is also facing a series of unprecedented global challenges.

Professor Wang Dong, a specialist on China-U.S. relations from Peking University commented: "from the fact that the U.S. side has to work overtime (from 7:45 pm to late night) for this virtual meeting with Chinese leader in order to fit into China's working hours (from 8:45 am to noon). Who do you think is taking the lead in this relationship?" Prof. Wang further added that the U.S. would no longer be able to define China-U.S. relations unilaterally, now it is the time for the two nations to treat each other with respect.

Professor Ruan Zongze, the Executive Vice President at China Institute of International Studies also noted that "in recent months, the increase in the frequency of talks between the two countries shows that the U.S. has recognized that it is necessary to cooperate with China to handle global challenges."
