The article by Prof. Jia Qingguo (Director of iGCU) and Prof. Xia Weiyong (Associate Professor of Yunnan University) jointly published "Fifty Years of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between China and Japan: Retrospect and Analysis" was recently published in Contemporary China and World (Vol. 2, 2022).

In the article, Prof. Jia and Prof. Xia argued that since the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the two countries have achieved peaceful coexistence and established a mutually beneficial relationship. However, the lack of political mutual trust in recent years has led to frequent conflicts and disputes, resulting in a more negative public perception of each other.

The authors indicated that it is of both Chinese & Japanese people’s fundamental interests to maintain an amicable China-Japan relation. Thus, the two countries should keep making efforts to properly handle historical issues, manage territorial and maritime disputes, strengthen economic cooperation and actively promote people-to-people exchanges."
