Brief Introduction to the China-Japan High-level People-to-people Exchange Mechanism

From November 22 to 26, 2019, Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister, and Toshimitsu Motegi, Foreign Minister of Japan, co-chaired the second meeting of the China-Japan High-level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-people Exchange. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral cooperation in culture, education, sports, tourism, media, film and television, native development, women and youth, jointly make a plan for exchange programs in 2020, and strived to create a new pattern of diverse, interactive and colorful people-to-people exchange.

On November 25, 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent letters to congratulate the first meeting of the China-Japan High-level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-people Exchange held in Tokyo. President Xi stressed that China-Japan relations have been improving. He hoped that both China and Japan make good use of this Mechanism to promote people-to-people exchange and people-to-people ties and to provide cultural support for building and developing China-Japan relations that meet the requirements of the new era.

People-to-people exchange play unique and important roles in promoting the improvement and development of China-Japan relations. The China-Japan High-level People-to-people Exchange Mechanism aims to consolidate public opinion foundation for the building of Japan-China relations in the new era and make contributions to creating a new future of Japan-China relations.

Sub-national people-to-people cooperation

When the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan was confirmed, and the supplies for fighting the pandemic were scarce, many Japanese counties and cities sent all the masks, protective suits and other epidemic prevention materials they can find to friendly Chinese provinces and cities, for example, Oita to Wuhan, Mito to Chongqing, Tokyo to Hubei, Shiga to Hunan, Kagawa to Shaanxi, and Niigata to Harbin.
